The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Suhail Khan Afridi, has formally written a letter to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, requesting that arrangements be made for family meetings with PTI Chairman Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
In the letter, the Chief Minister pointed out that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are currently in custody at Adiala Jail, and the issue of allowing family meetings has been raised previously to ensure compliance with legal requirements and humanitarian principles.
The Chief Minister stated that Eid-ul-Fitr is an important religious occasion, during which detainees should be allowed to meet their families, which is also their legal right.
He further highlighted that despite court orders and prison manual rules, inmates are being deprived of meetings with their families, medical facilities, and other basic rights, which is a matter of concern.
Referring to the Pakistan Prison Rules 1978 and the Prisons Act 1894, the letter emphasized that providing prisoners with access to family visits, humane treatment, and proper medical facilities is a legal obligation.
The Chief Minister urged the Prime Minister to issue directives to the relevant authorities to ensure that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are granted their legal right to meet their families.
