Web Desk: Pakistani security forces have launched intensified operations under “Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq” in the South Waziristan sector, targeting militant positions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, security sources said.

According to officials, Pakistani forces carried out retaliatory strikes against positions attributed to Afghan Taliban elements in the border region. They focused on areas stretching from Shawal to Zarmalan, where multiple posts were reportedly destroyed.

Security sources said the operation followed continued cross-border attacks and mortar fire that targeted civilian populations. As a result, at least eight civilians were killed in recent shelling incidents during the ongoing operation.

Meanwhile, officials linked a broader pattern of violence to what they described as “externally supported militant activity.” They claimed that attacks carried out through proxy groups have resulted in significant civilian casualties. So far in 2026, more than 130 civilians have been killed in such incidents, according to the data cited by security sources.

In comparison, similar attacks in 2025 led to around 400 civilian deaths, highlighting the scale of the security challenge in the region. Authorities, however, expressed confidence that ongoing military operations would reduce the frequency of such incidents in the coming months.

Furthermore, security officials stated that militant targeted in the latest were forced to retreat under sustained pressure from Pakistani forces. They added that the operation would continue until its stated objectives are fully achieved.

Analysts warn that continued cross-border tensions could further destabilize particularly if retaliatory actions escalate. At the same time, they emphasize the need to protect civilian lives and maintain regional stability.

Pakistan’s military has reiterated its commitment to counter militancy and safeguard border areas, while closely monitoring developments along the frontier.
