Conflicting claims emerge over targeted site in Kabul

Islamabad: Conflicting reports have surfaced regarding the nature of a site recently targeted in Kabul, with different sources offering sharply contrasting accounts.

According to what is being described as “ground intelligence” by unnamed sources, the location was not a drug rehabilitation centre, contrary to claims made by the Afghan Taliban. The sources allege that the site had previously been used by the Taliban to detain drug addicts after they took control of Kabul.

These claims further suggest that over time, some detainees were allegedly transferred to various armed groups. It is also being claimed that the facility was more recently being used to house Taliban personnel or members of affiliated groups.

On the other hand, the Afghan Taliban have maintained that the site served as a rehabilitation centre, rejecting allegations to the contrary.

Analysts caution that in conflict situations, competing narratives are common, and verification of on-ground realities often remains difficult. They stress the need for independent investigations to establish the facts.

The development comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with both sides engaged in an ongoing information battle alongside broader security concerns
