Web Desk: Meta has announced new scam detection tools for Facebook WhatsApp and Messenger. The goal of these tools is to alert users when they encounter suspicious activity.

On Facebook Meta is testing a feature that warns users about suspicious friend requests. When you receive or send a friend request the system will check for unusual signs such as having no mutual friends or a profile showing a different country instead of the real location.

Users will see alerts so they can decide whether to accept or reject the friend request.

On WhatsApp Meta is introducing device linking warnings. This feature helps prevent scammers from tricking users and linking their accounts to unauthorized devices. Users will receive alerts about suspicious linking requests including information about the origin of the request and a warning about potential scams.

On Messenger Meta will expand the Advanced Scam Detection feature to more countries. While the company has not named the countries users will receive warnings when chatting with new contacts based on behaviors commonly associated with scams.
