Madrid: The Spain government has recalled its ambassador from Israel, as confirmed in the official gazette published on Wednesday.
According to foreign news agencies, Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Spanish embassy in Tel Aviv will now be headed by the chargé d’affaires.
Spain established diplomatic relations with Israel in 1986, but tensions have persisted between the two countries. Spain has strongly opposed the Gaza conflict and the US-Israeli attacks on Iran. Recently, Spain’s Foreign Minister clarified that despite threats of trade sanctions from US President Donald Trump over Spain’s opposition to a war against Iran, relations between Spain and the United States remain normal.
The move comes amid growing tensions in the Middle East following the ongoing conflict involving Israel, Iran, and the United States. Several countries have expressed concern over the escalation and its potential impact on regional stability
Last week, the government of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez declared that a war against Iran would be illegal and barred US aircraft from using joint military bases in southern Spain for operations against Iran.
