Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the nation regarding the serious and dangerous situation in the Middle East, as well as the potential energy crisis facing Pakistan.

He condemned the attacks on Iran, expressing deep sorrow over the martyrdom of Ali Khamenei, his family, and innocent Iranian citizens. He also strongly condemned attacks on brotherly Muslim countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan. He emphasized that Pakistan stands shoulder to shoulder with these nations and considers their security an extension of its own.

Amid this crisis the Prime minister announced some key measures to meet the prevailing challanges.

The steps taken in this regatd are:

50% of government and private sector employees will work from home; offices will operate four days a week, with one extra weekly holiday. Essential sectors like banking, agriculture, and industry are exempted.

All schools will be closed for two weeks, with online classes starting for higher education institutions.

60% of government vehicles will be grounded; fuel allocation for departments reduced by 50%, except for ambulances and public transport.

Cabinet ministers, advisers, and special assistants will voluntarily forego salaries for two months; Members of Parliament will face a 25% salary cut.

Officers at Grade 20 and above will have a two-day salary deduction to be used for public relief.

Non-salary government expenses will be reduced by 20%, and purchases of vehicles, furniture, and air conditioners are banned.

Overseas trips by federal ministers, advisers, and governors are suspended, with exceptions only for essential travel. Online meetings will be prioritized.

Government events, including dinners, iftar parties, and conferences, will be held at official premises to save costs.

Strict action will be taken against hoarders and profiteers of petrol and diesel.
