Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has delayed his scheduled visit to Switzerland, according to diplomatic sources. The trip was planned to take place as part of follow-up engagements related to the US-Iran memorandum of understanding. The delay comes amid changes in the planned diplomatic schedule.
According to sources, the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, which was signed electronically in Islamabad, has now come into effect and implementation has begun. Due to this development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s proposed visit has been delayed.
Sources also stated that after high-level political progress, the importance of the official visit was reduced, and focus has shifted toward ensuring the structured implementation of the agreement.
Besides, Pakistan’s role was to provide a mutually agreed framework, reduce tensions during the crisis, and facilitate a structured path for implementation, and this objective has been achieved.
Sources further stated that the Islamabad MoU is a comprehensive agreement under which technical-level negotiations on various matters will be held in separate phases. These include easing of sanctions, maritime security, nuclear-related measures, verification mechanisms, phased implementation, and regional assurances.
According to govt officials, this development shows that Islamabad did not only host a diplomatic event but also played a role in forming a comprehensive framework, which will now be further worked on at the expert level.
