Web desk: Iran has strongly rejected Israeli media claims that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has already become the country’s next Supreme Leader.

Iranian state media called the reports “completely false.” They added that the Assembly of Experts is still meeting to choose the new Supreme Leader. Officials said the process could take about a week and emphasized that the new leader will be chosen only after Ayatollah Khamenei’s burial.

Ayatollah Khamenei will be buried in Mashhad at the shrine of his father Imam Reza. A memorial ceremony will take place before the burial. Iranian news agencies said they will announce the funeral details after receiving official approval.

The controversy began when several Israeli outlets claimed that Mojtaba Khamenei had already been selected. Analysts say these reports aim to spread misinformation, create confusion, and heighten regional tensions.

In response, Iranian officials slammed the reports as propaganda. They added that the goal of such claims is to destabilize public perception and mislead the international community about Iran’s internal political process.

Additionally, Israeli media often publish speculative stories about Iran’s political succession without official confirmation. Iranian authorities reaffirmed that the Assembly of Experts will follow constitutional procedures to select the next Supreme Leader. They stressed that unverified foreign reports will not influence the process.
