Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel and the attacks on Iran, India’s opposition party, the Indian National Congress, has issued a formal statement expressing serious reservations about the government’s foreign policy.
Congress stated that Modi’s visit could impact India’s strategic position. The statement further emphasized that relations exist between nations, not individual political parties, and therefore foreign affairs should be kept above political interests.
The party maintained that India has traditionally followed a policy of neutrality. However, it argued that Modi’s recent visit has affected that long-standing approach.
According to the statement, the Israeli visit is being perceived as support for the ongoing military escalation, which could weaken India’s balanced role in the region.
The opposition also termed the policy of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party irresponsible and opposed it, calling for caution and balance in handling foreign policy matters.
