Sharp rise in missing persons cases reported in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir

Human rights conditions in Jammu and Kashmir have once again come under scrutiny following reports of a significant increase in missing persons cases.


According to credible sources, a total of 7,141 missing persons cases were reported during 2023. Of these, 2,961 individuals were traced or recovered, while 4,190 remained missing by the end of the year.


Statistics indicate a steady rise in the number of missing persons over the past four years. At the end of 2020, the total number of missing individuals stood at 3,813, which increased to 4,190 by the end of 2023.


Experts say the figures raise serious questions about the human rights situation in the region and call for greater international attention.
Human rights activists have stated that families of the missing individuals continue to wait for justice and transparent investigations into the cases.
