Web desk: British police have arrested Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on suspicion of misconduct in public office, authorities said Thursday, following renewed scrutiny linked to files connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Thames Valley Police said officers detained Andrew earlier in the day as part of an ongoing investigation. The force did not provide further details about the specific allegations but confirmed that the arrest relates to matters under review in connection with evidence previously assessed by investigators.

Officers arrived at Andrew’s residence earlier Thursday, according to UK media reports. Images broadcast by several outlets showed police vehicles outside the property.

Police had previously said they were examining material associated with Epstein files to determine whether any new lines of inquiry warranted further investigation. Authorities did not clarify which elements of the material prompted the arrest.

Andrew has faced scrutiny over his past association with Epstein. He has repeatedly denied wrongdoing. In 2022 he reached an out of court settlement in a U.S. civil lawsuit in which he denied the allegations made against him.

Under British law an arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office allows investigators to question a suspect while they gather evidence. Police said the investigation remains active and declined to comment further.

There was no immediate statement from Andrew’s representatives.
