Riyadh: The Ramadan crescent has been sighted in Saudi Arabia, confirming that the first fast will begin on February 18.

Preparations for the moon sighting were made across the Kingdom, with a major meeting held at Hautat Sudair to observe the crescent. According to Saudi media, the moon was sighted for the first time using modern technology.

Similar moon-sighting meetings were also held at seven other locations across Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, in Abu Dhabi, the Ramadan moon-sighting session will take place at the historic Qasr Al Hosn fort.

The United Arab Emirates government has also urged the public to report immediately if they spot the moon. UAE astronomers have noted that sighting the crescent there may be challenging.
