Cross boarder terrorism: Pakistan sends stern message to Afghanistan

New York — Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad,while addressing a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, expressed deep concern over terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory. He stated that Pakistan would make no compromise on its sovereignty and the protection of its citizens.


Speaking at the Security Council session, the Pakistani envoy said that more than 80 innocent Pakistanis had lost their lives in recent terrorist attacks, and there was evidence that Afghan soil was used to plan these incidents.
He added that such elements continued to target Pakistan, posing a serious threat to regional peace and stability.


Asim Iftikhar Ahmad emphasized that Afghanistan’s interim government must ensure that its territory should not used for terrorist activities against Pakistan or any other country.


He also urged the international community to take the matter seriously and adopt effective measures to dismantle terrorist networks.


In his address, the Pakistani envoy also expressed concern over the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, economic instability, and particularly the restrictions imposed on women’s rights


He stated that ensuring basic rights and facilities for the Afghan people was essential to establish lasting peace in the region.


During the meeting, Pakistan conveyed a clear message that cross-border terrorism was a threat not only to bilateral relations but also to global peace, and practical steps are urgently required to address it.
