Islamabad: Passport authority has introduced a new digital monitoring system aimed at improving transparency, efficiency and citizen access across the passport application process, officials said.

The system allows real-time tracking of passport applications, printing and delivery not only within Pakistan but also for applications submitted from abroad.

24/7 monitoring hub established

To support the initiative, the Directorate General of Passports has set up a dedicated 24/7 monitoring room at its headquarters in Islamabad. The facility operates under the instructions of the Director General of Passports.

Officials said the monitoring room uses an integrated digital dashboard to oversee daily operations, review performance metrics and identify issues as they arise.

As a result, authorities can now track each stage of a passport application from submission to final delivery in real time.

Improved oversight and crowd management

Under the new system, officials can automatically detect crowding or congestion at passport offices, allowing staff to respond quickly and redistribute resources when needed.

In addition, the dashboard continuously monitors staff performance, passport printing operations, network management and machinery status. It also tracks backlogs to help prevent delays.

Officials said this data-driven approach would enable faster decision-making and more effective service delivery.

Greater transparency for citizens

The passport department said the initiative would directly benefit citizens by giving them timely updates on the status of their applications.

Applicants will now be able to access instant information on processing, printing and delivery stages. Authorities said this would also allow faster intervention in case of delays.

The department described the system as part of broader efforts to modernize passport services and make them more citizen-friendly.

Officials added that the move is expected to simplify the passport issuance process while ensuring greater accountability and transparency across operations.
