The National Highway and Motorway police (NHMP) has confirmed about the colures of major motorways in the country due to dense fog on Wednesday morning. However, the alternative roads are open for travel within the country.
M1- motorway from Peshawar to Swabi interchange is currently closed due to heavy fog in the area, the NHMP confirmed. According to the post of NHMP on X, almost five motorways are closed today, but there are chances of getting them open for travel after 12pm.
As per a social media post, the M1 motorway from Lahore to Hiran Minar is completely closed. Similarly, the M3 motorway from Lahore to Abdul Hakim is fully closed.
On the other hand, the M4-motorway from Pindi Bhattian to Multan is also closed. According to the confirmation of the NHMP, the M-5 motorway that links Multan to Sukkur is completely shut down until the weather improves.

Motorway police have issued a stern warning to travelers as dense fog has severely reduced visibility across several regions of the country, making travel on motorways increasingly dangerous. As a result, key stretches of the motorway network have been temporarily shut down. The M3 motorway from Dera Khana to Rajana, M4 from Gojra to Multan and M5 from Multan to Zahid Peer have all been closed to traffic until further notice.
Travelers Urged to Avoid Non-Essential Journeys
Saying that the visibility was drastically limited due to the thick fog, motorway police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel. He highlighted that the risk of accidents was significantly higher due to the reduced line of sight, making even routine driving hazardous. Authorities have emphasized that excessive speed and lane violations could lead to serious accidents during these weather conditions.
