Google

Web Desk: The aim of Pakistan’s Safe City project is to protect the citizens of this country against crime. Recently a new feature was added in the app for citizens to share live video footage with law enforcement. It seems that Google will be adding a similar feature to Android phones widely. A new feature called Android Emergency Live Video was announced by Android maker. The feature will allow users to share live video with emergency services. During emergencies, as the name suggests, the feature enables real-time video streaming. Interestingly it works with a single tap.

Another interesting feature will be that a dispatcher can request live video call from your phone, during an emergency. If you want to, you can start streaming securely after one tap.

Through live video feed the emergency responders will be able to quickly access the situation and determine what help is needed. They can also guide you through lifesaving tips such as CPR with real-time view until help arrives.

No prior setup is required by the feature. You also remain in control of what you share, it is encrypted by default. The user decides when to share the video and when to stop sharing it.

The new feature will only be available to Android phones running on Android 8 and later versions with Google Play Services.

The feature is being rolled out in United States and in some select regions of Mexico and Germany. If the feature proves successful it will probably role out to more countries.
