Web Desk: Residents of the Tirah Valley in Khyber district have agreed to relocate temporarily after authorities assured them they would address 27 conditions aimed at restoring stability and curbing militant activity in the region. Local elders confirmed the decision late Tuesday, saying the community accepted the plan only after receiving firm commitments from senior state officials.
Top Officials Named as Guarantors
The residents requested that the Chief Justice, the Interior Minister, the Peshawar Corps Commander, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Commander of the 27 Brigade serve as guarantors. Elders said the involvement of top civil and military leaders was essential to build trust after years of insecurity in the valley.
Compensation and Return Timeline
Under the understanding reached with authorities, families will relocate for two months and receive 700,000 rupees per household. Moreover, officials pledged transportation and basic supplies when residents return. The community also insisted that their belongings not be searched or confiscated during the move.
Demands on Property and Vehicles
Residents called for permission to register NCP vehicles inside Tirah and bring them to Peshawar without restrictions. Additionally, they asked the government to compensate owners for land taken under state control. They further demanded 8 million rupees for homes destroyed during military operations and 4 million rupees for houses partially damaged.
Education and Health Priorities
The community sought the revival of educational activities, including the establishment of a cadet college and girls’ schools in each tribal locality. They also urged the government to upgrade local hospitals and improve access to healthcare. Elders requested that link roads and protective structures along mountain foothills be built according to their recommendations.
Basic Services and Financial Support
Residents pressed for a separate provincial constituency for Tirah, along with reliable access to water, electricity and gas. Business owners asked for compensation for losses suffered during years of conflict, in addition to a special relief package and interest-free loans. They also called for compensation payments to families whose homes were demolished after 2014.
Authorities are expected to review the community’s demands in the coming days as preparations for the temporary relocation move forward.
