Web Desk: Wasim Akram, Pakistan Legend is concerned about how the young batter Hassan Nawaz is being handled by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management. According to Wasim Akram the country is wasting its one of the brightest T20 prospects.

The remark was made my Akram during commetary of the ILT20 clash between MI Emirates and Desert Vipers. The youngster walked in late during the innings. After this the legendary left hand fast bowler expressed his frustration. The frustration was directed at how both franchise and Pakistan’s team management setups have handled the 23-year old.

Akram said live on air “If you ask me, I think they are wasting Hassan Nawaz. He’s such a talented player!”. The problem that Akram has is that the batter is repeatedly being pushed into a role that does not suit him.

Hassan Nawaz earned his international debut earlier this year after a breakthrough PSL season. He is known for his explosive top-order hitting. Initially during the Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand he was brough in as an opener. He was replacing the injured Saim Ayub. He had a shaky start but he scored the fast T20i hundred ever by a Pakistani batter.

However, Sahibzada Farhan, Babar Azam and Saim Ayub as months passed returned to the line-up. Due to this Hassan lost his place at the top. He should have been groomed as a middle-order anchor or as a long term opener but was pushed into lower order and asked hit sixes from ball one.

In IL20 this trend has continued where he is being used as a late innings hitter for Desert Vipers. He is struggling to make an impact in a role that is not suited for him.

The trend has continued in the ILT20, where he is again being used as a late-innings hitter for the Desert Vipers, struggling to make an impact in a role far from his strengths.
