Pakistan Army accelerates clearance of explosive devices in KP

RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Army has intensified efforts to eliminate explosive materials and tunnels left behind by militants in the tribal areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

During the War on Terror, militants extensively planted landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the tribal regions to disrupt security forces and spread terrorism. Following counter-terrorism operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security forces have launched large-scale demining operations in these areas.

Brave soldiers of the Pakistan Armed Forces are risking their lives to clear the regions of explosives and mines.

A total of 114 square kilometers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been identified with explosive materials and tunnels. Thanks to the professional skills and tireless efforts of the Pakistan Army, 82 square kilometers have now been completely cleared. Demining operations continue round-the-clock in the remaining areas.

During these dangerous operations, five soldiers have been martyred, while 115 others have suffered severe injuries, including the loss of limbs.

The army’s primary aim in clearing these areas is to protect civilians from accidents. Often, children and young people unknowingly come into contact with explosive materials, leading to tragic incidents.

On November 26, in the village of Jannat Shah in Tehsil Khar, Bajaur, two youths were killed when explosives left by militants detonated. Similar incidents have previously occurred in Bajaur, Lakki Marwat, and several other areas.

Authorities urge the public to exercise caution and avoid crossing areas that have not yet been cleared to prevent further accidents.
