Three police personnel martyred in Hangu Checkpost attack

PESHAWAR: Fitna al Khwarij militants launched a sudden attack on a police checkpost on Hangu’s Shaho Road, Qazi Talab area, within the jurisdiction of City Police Station resulting in the martyrdom of three police personnel.

According to DPO Khanzeb Khan, the terrorists targeted the checkpost under the cover of darkness, but the stationed officers put up a brave resistance and fought back with full force.

Media reports say Havaldar Wahid Shah and Constable Abdul Samad sustained critical injuries in the exchange of fire and later succumbed to their wounds, while another police official was martyred on the spot. The DPO added that it is too early to confirm the extent of possible losses suffered by the attackers, but evidence is being collected.

Soon after the assault, a large contingent of police arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area, and launched a search operation. Rescue teams shifted the bodies of the martyrs to the DHQ Hospital, where necessary procedures are under way.

The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa strongly condemned the incident and paid tribute to the courage of the fallen personnel. He stated that the police force has sacrificed their lives for the safety of the public, a sacrifice that will always be remembered. Police officials reaffirmed their commitment to continue operations until the perpetrators are brought to justice.
