Resigned judges pushing personal agenda, says Rana Sanaullah

The Prime Minister’s Advisor on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has said that the resigned judges made a political statement, saying that the constitution has been attacked. There is no evidence in the statements made by the two resigned judges,he added.

Rana Sanullah stated that the statements of the resigned judges are based on political and personal agendas. The resigned judges are targeting Parliament for making amendments. Making amendments is the job of Parliament, but the resigned judges are criticising, he said while speaking on the private media channel.

He said the judges who resigned should explain how the Constitution was harmed. He noted that the only example given was that the judiciary was restricted because of transfers. He said the judiciary will handle judges’ transfers itself, and no one else — neither the government nor the cabinet — will interfere in this process.

Rana Sanaullah mentioned that all parties were together in the 27th Constitutional Amendment and got a two-thirds majority. The Supreme Court judges have not allowed any government to function in the last 10 years. Former judges sometimes built dams through Suo Moto and sometimes fixed the price of sugar.

The advisor said they have long argued that a constitutional court is needed. He asked whether it is not the court’s responsibility to provide justice to the common citizen. He added that people wait for justice for 10 years, yet they still do not receive it.
