Wana: Security forces continued a carefully planned rescue operation at Cadet College Wana on Tuesday after militants linked to Afghan extremists reportedly infiltrated the campus, security sources said.
Fresh video footage from the scene showed security personnel leading students to safety. According to security officials, 350 people have been rescued so far, and all cadets remain safe. The operation began early Tuesday after militants were spotted inside the college premises.
Forces Proceed With Caution
Sources said the Inspector General of Frontier Corps (South) is personally supervising the ongoing operation. Around 300 people are still inside the college, prompting security forces to proceed with maximum caution to avoid civilian casualties.
“The lives of cadets are our top priority,” a security official told Reuters. “Given the presence of Afghan militants inside the facility, the operation is being carried out with extreme precision and patience.”
Operation to Continue Until Threat Eliminated
Authorities confirmed that the operation would continue until all terrorists are neutralized. The forces have cordoned off the surrounding area, and additional reinforcements have been deployed to prevent any escape attempts by the attackers.
Calm but Tense Situation
Despite the ongoing security operation, officials described the situation as under control. Parents and residents have been advised to remain calm as communication lines between the military and college administration remain active.
The incident marks another reminder of persistent cross-border threats in Pakistan’s tribal belt, where security forces continue to battle extremist groups seeking to destabilize the region.
