Another officer commits suicide days after SP Adeel’s death

ISLAMABAD: A former police officer Abdul Salam reportedly took his own life at his residence within the Bani Gala police limits.

According to police officials, Abdul Salam shot himself with a pistol, the bullet exiting through his head. He was alone in the room at the time of the incident, while his family members were present elsewhere in the house. The former officer and his family had recently moved from Karachi to Islamabad on November 2. His body has been shifted to the hospital as investigations continue.

This tragic event follows closely after the suicide of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Adeel Akbar, who allegedly shot himself inside his vehicle on Shahrah-e-Dastoor a few days earlier.

A three-member inquiry committee, led by DIG Haroon Joya and including DIG Atique Tahir and DIG Operations Jawad Tariq, was formed to investigate Adeel Akbar’s death. The committee has received the post-mortem report confirming that the bullet wound to the face caused his death.

Investigators have recorded statements from Adeel Akbar’s wireless operator, driver, and other staff members, along with the testimony of a psychiatrist. Sources revealed that before his death, SP Adeel Akbar had consulted his doctor twice, suggesting he may have been struggling with mental distress prior to the incident.
