The race for New York mayor between Zohran Mamdani and Andrew Cuomo will decide whether the city gets it first Muslim mayor and youngest leader in generations or elects a veteran politician who leave the governorship four years ago amid controversy.
According to the New York Board of Elections, 1.5 million people voted during the polling for the mayoral election. This year, it was the highest turnover in the mayoral election as compared to the last 20 years.
Other big races are in the governor’s offices of New Jersey and Virginia, and a California ballot initiative that Democrats believe will enable them to gain control of the House next year.
Although local issues predominate during the campaigns, the outcomes have a national dimension in a year where President Donald Trump has been at loggerheads with governors and mayors concerning his actions to deploy National Guard forces and immigration officers. However, President Trump wrote on Truth Social, “If affordability is your issue, VOTE REPUBLICAN! Energy costs, as an example, are plummeting – Getting close to 2 Dollar a gallon gasoline. When energy goes down, everything else follows, and it has!!! President DJT.”
He also wrote, “Any Jewish person that votes for Zohran Mamdani, a proven and self professed JEW HATER, is a stupid person.”
