Faisalabad: Pakistan defeated South Africa by two wickets in a thrilling finish to claim a 1–0 lead in the three-match ODI series on Tuesday, marking the return of international cricket to Faisalabad after 17 years.

Chasing a target of 264, Pakistan reached the mark in the final over, finishing at 265 for eight. Skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi, who captained the ODI side for the first time, called it an honor to lead the team and praised the players’ composure under pressure.

South Africa Post 263 After Strong Start

Batting first, South Africa posted 263 before being bowled out in 49.1 overs. The visitors started strongly, with openers adding a 98-run stand. Lhuan-dre Pretorius top-scored with 57, while Quinton de Kock contributed 63. Tony de Zorzi added 18, captain Ruan Brits struck 42, and Corbin Bosch made 41 as Pakistan’s bowlers gradually pulled the innings back.

Pakistan Bowlers Shine in Middle Overs

For Pakistan, Naseem Shah and Abrar Ahmed claimed three wickets each, while Saim Ayub picked up two. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Nawaz took one a piece, restricting South Africa from capitalizing on their strong start.
