ISLAMABAD: Condemning the continuing attacks in Gaza, Pakistan has informed the UN Security Council’s open debate that such actions by Israel are contrary to the spirit of Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement regarding Gaza.
“The ceasefire, the release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and the restoration of humanitarian flows are welcome steps. Yet the situation remains fragile,” said Acting Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, Ambassador Usman Jadoon.
“The peace efforts must not be derailed. Lasting stability cannot be achieved through continued occupation and oppression,” he emphasized while addressing the UN Security Council’s open debate on the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue.
Jadoon welcomed renewed peace efforts in the Middle East following the signing of the peace agreement and expressed hope that the deal will pave the way for a permanent ceasefire, humanitarian relief, and a just resolution of the Palestinian question.
Ambassador Jadoon commended the mediating roles of Egypt, Qatar, Türkiye, and the United States in facilitating the agreement.
Ambassador Jadoon highlighted the devastating toll of the two-year war in Gaza, which claimed over 68,000 Palestinian lives, mostly women and children, and caused widespread destruction and displacement. He stressed that genuine peace could not be achieved through occupation and oppression.
“Pakistan condemns Israel’s ongoing attacks in Gaza that continue to claim innocent lives,” he said, urging all sides to honor the terms of the Sharm El-Sheikh accord. He also denounced recent moves by the Israeli Knesset to assert sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and expand illegal settlements, calling them violations of international law and UN resolutions.
Ambassador Jadoon noted Pakistan’s participation in recent diplomatic efforts, including meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly’s 80th session, where President Donald Trump met with eight Arab and Islamic leaders. In a joint statement with Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Indonesia, and Türkiye, Pakistan supported a comprehensive U.S.-led peace initiative aimed at ending the Gaza conflict and achieving a two-state solution.
He emphasized that sustainable peace required a multi-step approach: full ceasefire implementation, accountability for war crimes, ending illegal Israeli actions in the West Bank, safeguarding Al-Aqsa Mosque’s status, supporting UNRWA’s humanitarian work, and launching a credible political process to establish an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Ambassador Jadoon also underlined the importance of the International Conference on the Two-State Solution, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, as a complementary initiative toward Palestinian self-determination.
He concluded by reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to work with the United Nations and regional partners to ensure peace, justice, and dignity for the Palestinian people, including through support for international stabilization measures and Gaza’s reconstruction.
