ISLAMABAD: In a landmark achievement for the nation’s space ambitions, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced the successful launch of Pakistan’s first hyperspectral satellite, HS-1. The launch marks a major milestone in the country’s space exploration program, ushering Pakistan into a new era of advanced satellite technology.

Equipped with cutting-edge hyperspectral imaging capabilities, HS-1 can capture highly precise images across hundreds of narrow spectral bands. This breakthrough technology will significantly enhance Pakistan’s capacity for agricultural planning, environmental monitoring, urban development, and disaster management. The satellite will enable detailed analysis of land, vegetation, water bodies, and urban zones, providing critical data for sustainable decision-making.

Speaking on the occasion, SUPARCO Chairman Muhammad Yousaf Khan congratulated the nation and expressed gratitude to the Government of Pakistan for its continuous support in realizing this national project. He emphasized that the data gathered from HS-1 will play a transformative role in boosting agricultural productivity, promoting climate resilience, and ensuring the efficient use of natural resources.

With its advanced imaging precision, HS-1 will assist in mapping crop health, soil moisture, and water quality while enabling regular monitoring of deforestation, pollution, and glacier melting. The satellite will also play a vital role in early warning systems and post-disaster assessments for floods, landslides, and other natural calamities, particularly in the northern regions. Furthermore, the mission is expected to support major development initiatives such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) by identifying geographical risks and facilitating sustainable infrastructure planning.

The successful launch of HS-1 represents another shining chapter in Pakistan-China space collaboration, reflecting their deep-rooted friendship and growing strategic partnership in peaceful space research and socio-economic development.

The inclusion of HS-1 in Pakistan’s expanding space program signifies a major leap toward self-reliance in space technology and reinforces SUPARCO’s pivotal role in leveraging modern space applications to drive national progress.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, commended the scientists and technical teams from Pakistan and China working on HS-1 for their commitment, professional excellence and exemplary cooperation.
