Web desk: The US State Department has said that Washington played an important role in helping Pakistan and India reach a ceasefire agreement, while describing recent Indian statements on the issue as largely tied to domestic politics.

Speaking to the media, a senior State Department official for South Asia stressed that the United States was central to the process. ‘It is a fact that the US contributed to the ceasefire,’ the official said, adding that contradictions in New Delhi’s public remarks were mainly linked to internal political dynamics.

The official noted that Kashmir remains a longstanding dispute that can only be resolved through direct dialogue between Pakistan and India.

They added that Washington would be willing to consider mediation if formally requested by both sides. The official also referred to comments made by former US President Donald Trump regarding the handover of Bagram Air Base.

Meanwhile, the State Department described the extradition of a suspect involved in the killing of 13 US soldiers from Pakistan as a “positive development” in bilateral relations and expressed gratitude to Islamabad for its cooperation.

A spokesperson further said that the United States continues to pursue its relations with both Pakistan and India, noting that ties with each country are “different in nature” but important for US interests.

The department also confirmed that Washington is exploring investment opportunities in Pakistan, particularly in the Reko Diq mining project, with plans for multi-million-dollar investments in the pipeline.
