Monsoon season ends, no rain forecast for next week: DG PDMA

WEBDESK: Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Irfan Ali Kathia, has said the monsoon season has ended and there is no forecast of rain for the coming week.

Speaking at a media briefing, he stated that all monsoon systems have now cleared and rivers have returned to their normal levels. From Marala to Panjnad and from Jassar to Sindhnai, no major flood wave is present. He added that the Sutlej River has slightly higher flow compared to other rivers, but water levels have been falling for the past 48 hours. Breach points have been repaired.

The DG PDMA explained that after the water peak passed through Punjab, Sindh did not face major problems. He said that 28 districts were affected and around 5 million people were hit by the 2025 floods. In South Punjab, 331 relief camps are still active, with most victims staying in Alipur, Muzaffargarh and Pirwala.

According to him, more than 612,000 people have received aid through medical camps. The floods caused 123 deaths. Compensation will be given in four categories, and a transparent digital survey will be carried out within the next 30 days.

The DG also noted that crops suffered heavy damage. Wheat, maize, rice, and cotton were badly affected across large areas.
