Water levels in the River Indus have surged to dangerous levels, with high floods reported at the Guddu and Sukkur barrages, according to the Flood Forecasting Division.
At Guddu Barrage, inflows were measured at 605,456 cusecs and outflows at 575,706 cusecs. Sukkur Barrage also recorded high flood levels, with inflows at 571,800 cusecs and outflows at 518,120 cusecs.
In Punjab, a medium-level flood is passing through Head Panjnad on the River Chenab, where the inflow was recorded at 219,434 cusecs and the outflow at 210,884 cusecs.
A medium flood has also been reported at Ganda Singh Wala on the River Sutlej, with a flow of 89,060 cusecs.
In a statement, the emergency service said teams are working day and night to evacuate residents from flood-hit villages. Evacuations are ongoing in Naraja Bhatta, Basti Khan Bela, Basti Jafra, Basti Beth Kech, Basti Ponta, Basti Mahana Sandila, and Basti Kurman Wali.
So far, 22,860 people and 4,130 animals have been shifted to safer locations in Jalalpur Pirwala tehsil. In the last 24 hours alone, 1,396 people and 766 animals were rescued.
In Multan Saddar and City tehsils, 9,304 people and 2,998 animals have been evacuated so far, with another 34 people and 14 animals rescued during the past 24 hours. Rescue officials said children, women, and the elderly are being given priority during evacuations using boats and other safety measures.
Meanwhile, Edhi rescue workers recovered the body of a 65-year-old man from floodwaters near the Jalalpur Pirwala Interchange. Officials identified the deceased as Sada Chauhan, a resident of Bahadar Pur. The body had been in the water for two days before being found.
Prior to this, the Ministry of Energy said that electricity restoration work is moving quickly in flood-affected regions, with most damaged feeders now back online.
According to the latest report, a total of 543 feeders were disrupted due to floods. Out of these, 309 have been fully restored while 226 have been partially reconnected. Officials said that the remaining feeders will only be restored once floodwater recedes.
In Faisalabad Electric Supply Company’s area, 81 feeders were damaged, with 36 fully restored and 44 partially. In Lahore region, 63 out of 67 feeders are now fully functional, while four are partly working.
The Multan Electric Company reported 180 affected feeders, where seven are fully restored and 166 partially. Gujranwala region had 103 disrupted feeders; 96 are now fully active and seven partly restored.
Peshawar Electric Supply Company has reconnected 87 feeders, either fully or partially. In North Waziristan and Khyber, 17 out of 18 feeders are fully operational and one partially. Hazara Electric Company has also fixed technical issues in all three feeders affected in Mansehra.
A spokesperson for the Power Division assured that the remaining grid stations across the country will be restored without delay as soon as water levels go down.
