WEBDESK: Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai has announced $230,000 in aid for children affected by the recent floods in Pakistan.
In a video message, Malala said that $200,000 will be given as a grant to the organisation Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi, while $30,000 will go to the Mountain Institute for Education and Development.
She explained that the funds will be used to provide books, uniforms and other essential items for children whose education has been disrupted by the disaster.
“The floods have destroyed schools across the country,” Malala said. “My heartfelt sympathies are with the people of Pakistan in this difficult time.”
Malala noted that the floods have caused devastation in every province, leaving people homeless and hundreds of schools damaged. She said girls’ education has been hit the hardest.
She stressed that frontline workers must be supported in relief efforts and vowed to help children return to classrooms as soon as possible.
