Heavy rains forecast across Pakistan until 19 September

WEBDESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted further rain across the country from tonight until 19 September. Heavy downpours are expected in some areas.

According to the PMD, moist winds from the Arabian Sea will enter the upper parts of the country from tonight. These will bring intermittent rain and thunderstorms to different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa between 16 and 19 September, including Dir, Chitral, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Malakand and Kohat.

In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, heavy showers may hit Rawalakot, Hattian Bala, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur and nearby areas during this period. Rain is also forecast for several districts of Gilgit-Baltistan, such as Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar.

Heavy rains forecast for Lahore, Faisalabad and other Punjab districts

From 16 to 19 September, rain and thunderstorms are likely in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Lahore, Faisalabad, Kasur, Sheikhupura and parts of central Punjab. Heavy rain may also fall in some of these areas.

In Sindh, hot and dry weather will prevail in most districts, although the coastal belt will remain partly cloudy. Balochistan will also see partly cloudy and humid conditions.

Meanwhile, light rain fell early this morning in parts of Karachi, including I.I. Chundrigar Road, Saddar and Garden, bringing brief relief from the humid weather. For the next 24 hours, Karachi is expected to remain partly cloudy with humid conditions, with temperatures ranging between 31°C and 33°C. The lowest temperature recorded in the city during the last 24 hours was 27°C.

This marks the 11th spell of monsoon rains in Punjab, where alerts have been issued. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also warned of possible glacial lake outburst floods in some parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to the forecasted rain.
