Punjab approves recruitment of 8,084 CTIs to address faculty shortage

Web desk: The Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) has announced the hiring of 8,084 College Teaching Interns (CTIs) across government colleges to tackle the shortage of teaching staff for the academic session 2025–26.

Recruitment quotas

As part of the hiring policy, special allocations have been made:

  • 5 per cent reserved for minorities
  • 3 per cent for persons with disabilities
  • 0.5 per cent for members of the transgender community

Duration

The internship period will vary depending on the level of classes:

Programme LevelDuration of Engagement
Intermediate Classes1 October 2025 – 30 April 2026 (7 months)
BS Programmes1 October 2025 – 31 July 2026 (10 months, or until permanent appointments are made)

Eligibility

  • Minimum requirement: BS or Master’s degree with a second division in the relevant subject
  • Candidates with an MPhil or a PhD will be given preference
  • Merit will be determined through:
    • Academic records
    • Higher qualifications
    • University/board positions
    • Interview performance

Monthly stipends

Selected interns will receive the following stipends, which will be transferred directly to their bank accounts.

Terms & conditions

  • No age limit for applicants
  • CTIs are entitled to two casual leaves per month
  • No TA/DA will be provided
  • Appointments are temporary and can be terminated in case of poor performance
  • Recruitment will strictly be on merit; any use of forged or fake documents will lead to cancellation and legal action

According to HED officials, this initiative aims to ensure smooth academic operations in government colleges until permanent faculty members are appointed.

The move is expected to bridge the immediate gap in teaching staff and maintain academic continuity across Punjab.
