Government waives electricity bills for flood-hit areas, refunds announced

Web desk: The government has waived electricity bills for flood-affected regions and announced that consumers who have already paid will be refunded.

According to media sources, Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari welcomed the decision, thanking Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for what he described as a timely and people-friendly step.

He said electricity bills for August in flood-hit areas have been cancelled, and amounts already paid will be returned to consumers. He added that the immediate implementation of the decision would be ensured.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed power distribution companies to stop collecting electricity bills from flood-affected consumers for August 2025.

The instruction came during a high-level meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office, which reviewed the flood situation and its impact on citizens.

The Prime Minister’s Office said a detailed relief package for power consumers in disaster-hit areas will be finalised after ongoing discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

PM Sharif also assured that those who had already paid their August bills would receive adjustments in the coming month. He noted that the floods have displaced millions across Pakistan, and the government is striving to ease the suffering of the people.

He stressed that federal and provincial agencies are working together on rescue and rehabilitation operations, adding that the government will not rest until affected families can return to their homes.
