Punjab govt dispatches 6,000 tents for flood victims

WEBDESK: The Punjab government has sent thousands of tents to help people affected by floods in southern districts.

According to an official statement, 2,500 tents have been dispatched to Multan’s Jalalpur Pirwala tehsil and another 2,500 to Rahim Yar Khan.

The government also said that 1,000 tents will reach Rajanpur by this evening.

In a post on X, the Punjab government added that relief goods are also being sent to other flood-hit districts on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Meanwhile, authorities in south Punjab are preparing for possible breaches of embankments as rivers swell dangerously. Multan remains at high risk due to rising water levels in the Chenab River.

Officials confirmed that the Sher Shah dyke may have to be breached to protect urban areas if water levels rise further. The critical mark is 393.5 feet, while last night the level was recorded at 393 feet.
