X finally launched its long-awaited chat platform. The old DM system is gone. A full messaging experience has taken its place. The change feels big. It also feels overdue.

The update adds voice calling. It adds video calling too. Users can now share files. They can edit messages. They can even delete messages after sending them. These additions make the platform feel complete. They also make it feel more competitive.

The new system arrives with privacy tools. Conversations can be encrypted. Screenshot alerts are included. These features give users more control. They also build trust.

The rollout has begun. It is live on iOS. It is live on the web. Android users must wait. The company says the delay is short. It promises quick support. In the meantime, X is testing voice memos. These short audio messages will arrive soon.

The upgrade has a long backstory. X previewed chat tools for months. It released an early encrypted version. Then it paused the feature in May. Technical issues forced the break. Now the problems seem fixed. The latest version removes old restrictions. Group chats can be encrypted. Media can be encrypted as well.

Still, gaps remain. Metadata is not protected. Message recipients can be identified. This creates concern. It also exposes risk.

The company admits another weakness. It cannot guard against man-in-the-middle attacks. A bad actor could intercept a chat. An internal employee could do the same. A legal request could also lead to exposure. Neither person in the conversation would know.

Even so, X says improvements are coming. It is building verification tools. These tools will confirm authenticity. They will help users feel safer. They may also strengthen trust.

The platform is changing fast. The direction is clear. And the race to match major apps has truly begun.
