ISLAMABAD: The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has announced winter vacations in all educational institutions in Islamabad. Holidays will be observed from December 25 to January 3 2026.
Winter vacations will start from 24th December, as 25th December will be observed as a public holiday. All schools and colleges will remain closed during these dates.
Classes and academic activities will restart from 5th January (Monday). 4th January is a weekly holiday (Sunday), so institutions will reopen the next working day.
The FDE also announced that 10th January 2026 (Saturday) will be observed as a working day for all staff members, administrative, teaching, and non-teaching they must come to work on that day. Although Saturday is normally a holiday but to carry out some urgent tasks. That will be a working day on that date.
The purpose of making it a holiday is to prioritise tasks. These tasks were already assigned through a letter issued by the directorate on 5th December.
The notice has been formally approved by the Director General of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE).
Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) boards also announce winter vacation in all educational institutions.
Punjab holidays will be observed from December 23, 2025 to January 10, 2026. 11th and 12th January (Saturday-Sunday) is a weekly holiday so schools will reopen from 13 January 2026 (Monday).
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Elementary and Secondary Education Department has issued an official notification explaining that winter vacations will vary based on geographical location. Cold and hilly districts will observe longer holidays, while plain areas will have a shorter winter break.
Cold regions holidays will be observed from December 22, 2025, to February 28, 2026. The cold regions of KPK include districts such as Chitral, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, Battagram, and Abbottabad. These areas face heavy snowfall, blocked roads, and freezing temperatures during winter.
While in plain areas, holidays will be observed from December 22, 2025, to December 31, 2025. The plain areas of KPK include districts like Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Swabi, Nowshera, Kohat, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan. These areas experience comparatively mild winter conditions.
