A prediction has been made regarding the sighting of the Muharram-ul Haram moon.
The Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council has issued a prediction regarding the Muharram-ul-Haram moon in Pakistan.
According to the Secretary General of the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council, Khalid Ejaz Mufti, the new moon will be born on 15 June 2026 at 7:54 AM Pakistan Standard Time. However, on the same day at sunset, the age of the moon across all parts of Pakistan will be less than 12 hours, while generally a moon is considered visible when its age exceeds 18 hours.
He said that the time difference between sunset and moonset is also important for moon sighting. On the evening of 15 June, this difference will be 37 minutes in Karachi and 42 minutes in Peshawar; however, due to the low age of the moon, there is no possibility of it being sighted.
According to Khalid Ejaz Mufti, because the moon’s age will be less than 18 hours, even with clear weather, it will not be possible to sight the crescent moon on the evening of 15 June with the naked eye, binoculars, or telescopes.
The Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council stated that after completing 30 days of Zilhaj 1447 Hijri, the first of Muharram 1448 Hijri will fall on Wednesday, 17 June 2026.
They clarified that the final and religiously binding announcement regarding the sighting of the Muharram crescent will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
