Web Desk: A powerful western weather system has entered Pakistan, bringing rain, strong winds, thunderstorms and snowfall in mountainous areas. Meteorologists warn that the cold wave could intensify across several regions in the coming days.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts rain across major cities, including Islamabad, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad and Gujranwala. In northern Punjab, particularly Murree and Galiyat, authorities expect heavy snow, which will increase winter chills. Officials have advised tourists and residents in hilly areas to stay cautious due to potential landslides and blocked roads.
Meteorologists forecast rain and snow in Balochistan next week. A new western system will enter the province on January 19, affecting Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin and Qila Abdullah. Experts warn that northern Balochistan will experience harsher cold, and snow could disrupt transportation. Between January 21 and 23, Quetta and Ziarat may see heavy snowfall, while northern and central districts could face significant temperature drops. Ice and slippery roads in Zhob, Harnai, Loralai and Qila Saifullah may affect traffic. Rainfall will also hit Khuzdar, Panjgur, Kech, Gwadar, and Lasbela.
PMD predicts intermittent rain and snow in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until January 19. Thunderstorms with gusty winds may intensify winter conditions and disrupt daily life. Between January 18 and 20, Murree, Galiyat, and surrounding areas will receive rain and snow. From January 20 to 23, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad, Murree, Galiyat, Pothohar, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sahiwal, Multan, Faisalabad, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur divisions could see rain.
The PMD also forecasts rain and gusty winds in Peshawar, Hazara, Malakand, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan divisions. Authorities urge citizens, travelers, and organizations to monitor updates and take safety precautions.
