Major Changes Expected in WhatsApp, Plans Underway to Turn It into a Social Platform

User privacy to improve while connecting with new people will become easier

WhatsApp is preparing to roll out significant changes in 2026, aiming to transform itself from a simple messaging app into a full-fledged social platform.

According to a foreign news agency, the company is working on features that will allow users to connect more effectively through photos, videos, and other content alongside regular chatting.

One of the most important upcoming features is a username system, which will enable users to connect with others without sharing their phone numbers—similar to how Instagram operates. This will not only enhance user privacy but also make it easier to connect with new people.

Additionally, the Status feature is being upgraded. Users will be able to add music, like statuses, and interact through features such as “Add Yours.”
Reports also suggest updates to the “About” section, allowing users to share short messages that will automatically disappear after 24 hours.

Other additions include chat themes, sticker suggestions, channel subscriptions, and AI-powered tools, which will help users edit images and compose messages more easily.

These changes aim to make WhatsApp more modern and interactive. However, some users believe that these updates may affect the app’s simplicity.
