Web Desk: Authorities transferred former prime minister Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on late Monday for a follow-up medical examination and specialised eye treatment, hospital officials said.

Doctors administered the second dose of an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection as part of his ongoing ophthalmic care, they added.

Before the procedure, a board of specialist doctors conducted a detailed medical assessment of the 74-year-old former premier. The evaluation included cardiac tests such as an electrocardiogram (ECG) and echocardiography, both of which returned normal results, according to hospital management.

A consultant cardiologist and a consultant physician examined Khan and declared him medically stable for the day-care intervention.

After obtaining Khan’s consent, doctors carried out the procedure in an operating theatre under standard monitoring protocols and precautionary measures. A consultant ophthalmologist and a consultant vitreo-retinal surgeon supervised the injection using microscopic guidance.

Hospital officials said the anti-VEGF intravitreal injection was administered as a day-care surgery without complications.

Meanwhile, PIMS officials said Khan’s vital signs remained stable before, during and after the procedure. Medical staff monitored him throughout his stay at the hospital.

Doctors later discharged him with post-procedure care instructions, follow-up advice and relevant medical documentation. Authorities subsequently transferred him back to Adiala Jail, officials said.
