Manipur India clashes against BJP

Tensions have once again escalated in India’s northeastern state of Manipur, where intense clashes have been reported between civilians and security forces.

According to Indian media, protests against the policies of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government turned violent, reflecting growing unrest in the region.

Protesters staged a rally which was intercepted by security forces. The situation deteriorated when personnel used baton charges and tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. In response, demonstrators resorted to stone-pelting, further escalating tensions.

According to Hindustan Times, several civilians have been injured during the clashes, and fear has spread across affected areas. Authorities have not confirmed any fatalities so far, but security has been significantly tightened.

Manipur has been facing prolonged instability and public wrath over the past year, largely driven by ethnic tensions between different communities, including the Meitei and Kuki groups. Disputes over land ownership, political inclusion, and demands for special status have repeatedly turned into violence.

Narendra Modi led govt has maintained that efforts are underway to restore peace and stability. However, recurring outbreaks of violence indicate that underlying tensions are paid no heed.

The situation remains uncertain, with fears that further unrest could erupt if immediate and inclusive measures are not taken.
