From October 10, Islamabad will permanently cancel vehicle registrations that remain in tax default.
Excise and Taxation Department suspends registrations of unpaid vehicles and sets final deadline for clearance
The Excise and Taxation Department has suspended the registrations of vehicles whose owners did not pay motor vehicle taxes by June 30, 2025.
Red notices have gone to all owners registered in the district. Officials said any owner who fails to clear dues and obtain official receipts by October 10 will face permanent cancellation.
Once cancelled, the registration can be restored only after payment of heavy fines along with outstanding taxes.
To speed up recovery, the department has opened special counters and urged citizens to settle accounts early.
Action taken under Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965 with no concession after October 10 according to department spokesperson
A department spokesperson confirmed that the enforcement drive is grounded in the Motor Vehicle Ordinance of 1965.
The statement made clear that no concession will be granted after the deadline.
Therefore, owners who continue to delay risk losing legal road access for their vehicles.
In practical terms, a cancelled registration can disrupt insurance, resale, and daily travel.
Citizens have been advised to bring complete documents, confirm the exact amount due, and keep payment receipts for verification.
Islamabad Traffic Police to arrest unlicensed drivers from October 1 with vehicles to be impounded at stations
Separately, the Islamabad Traffic Police announced strict action against drivers without valid licences starting October 1.
Offenders will be arrested and their vehicles will be impounded.
Inspector General of Police Ali Nasir Rizvi has instructed officers to enforce the policy in full. After October 1, any driver found without a licence will be booked under a case and taken into custody.
According to the new rules, both the driver and the vehicle will be detained at the police station.
Residents have been urged to renew documents now to avoid penalties and delays.
