Web Desk: The United Kingdom has advised urging its citizens to avoid all travel to Afghanistan due to rising security risks and escalating tensions along the Afghan and Pakistan border. According to UK Foreign Office the security situation remains highly unstable, with recent clashes reported in border regions and an increased risk of detention for foreign nationals.

In its new guidance, London has said that British citizens detained in Afghanistan could face prolonged imprisonment and stressed that the UK government has extremely limited capacity to provide assistance inside the country. A number of border crossings remain closed, further complicating travel and exit options.

The advisory is the result amid worsening relations between the Taliban and Pakistan, which have led to deadly exchanges of fire.

The regional powers and Afghanistan’s neighbors, meeting in Tehran, have called for dialogue between the Taliban and Pakistan to ease tensions. According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry the participants expressed readiness to support de-escalation efforts and assist Afghanistan in areas such as security economic stability, cooperation and regional integration and urging the lifting of sanctions and release of frozen Afghan assets.
