Web Desk: Pakistan summoned India’s Chargé d’Affaires to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday to lodge a strong protest over the killing of two Pakistani civilians by personnel of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in the Bedian sector along the international border.

According to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, the incident occurred on Oct. 2, when the two civilians were killed in what Islamabad described as the use of lethal force against unarmed civilians.

The Foreign Ministry said the BSF personnel used what it described as “unprovoked lethal force” and called the action unjustified and disproportionate.

Pakistan also rejected any attempt to characterise the deceased as “infiltrators,” saying the victims were Pakistani civilians.

The ministry said the incident raised serious concerns over the protection of civilian life and constituted a violation of fundamental human rights, including the right to life.

Pakistan called on the Indian side to conduct an immediate, transparent and credible investigation into the incident.

It also urged India to take appropriate disciplinary and legal action against those found responsible and formally communicate the investigation’s findings and subsequent measures to the Pakistani government.

The Foreign Ministry further called on India to respect fundamental human rights and international law while adhering to relevant bilateral arrangements and established border procedures.

Pakistan also urged Indian authorities to exercise maximum restraint in dealing with similar situations and take effective measures to prevent such incidents from happening again.

The latest diplomatic protest comes amid continued sensitivity along the Pakistan-India international border, where incidents involving border forces and civilians have previously prompted exchanges between the two countries.
