Web Desk: Authorities reopened all major highways connecting KP with Punjab after acting on orders from the Peshawar High Court, restoring traffic that had been suspended for four days due to political protests.

District administrations and police in Swabi, Nowshera, Haripur, Dera Ismail Khan and Kohat removed barricades and cleared blockades, fully resuming light and heavy traffic between the two provinces.

Officials said they reopened the Swabi Anbar Interchange and the Khushal Garh Kohat bridge after late-night negotiations with supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who had blocked the routes. Authorities had earlier cleared obstacles from the Attock bridge over the Indus River, reopening the main Grand Trunk Road linking the provinces.

Meanwhile, roads and bridges connecting Dera Ismail Khan with Punjab’s Mianwali and Chashma areas also resumed operations. Police cleared protesters from the Dera Ismail Khan-Islamabad Motorway M-14, including the CPEC Yarik toll plaza.

In the Hazara region, authorities restored traffic at the Havelian and Muslimabad interchanges on the Hazara Motorway.

PTI workers had shut down the highways to demand medical treatment and release of the party’s founding chairman. However, following the high court’s directive issued a day earlier, the administration moved swiftly to enforce the order and reopen all interprovincial routes.

As a result, transport and trade flows between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab have returned to normal after four days of disruption, easing pressure on commuters and freight operators.
