Web Desk: Terrorists launched an assault on an under-construction police station in central Kurram District on the second day of Eid, triggering a gun battle that left two attackers dead, officials said.
The attack took place in the Jabo area, where construction work on the police station was ongoing. Workers were present at the site, while a small number of police personnel were deployed for security when the assailants arrived and demanded a halt to the work.
However, security personnel resisted, leading to an exchange of fire between the two sides. As a result, two terrorists were killed on the spot, according to initial reports.
During the assault, the attackers also abducted several workers and police personnel, escalating tensions in the area. Subsequently, local elders intervened and initiated negotiations with the militants.
As a result of these talks, the abducted workers were released safely, while the situation gradually stabilised.
Meanwhile, additional police contingents reached the site shortly after the attack, helping to secure the area and bring the situation under control. Authorities said a search operation may follow to ensure no further threats remain.
The incident underscores ongoing security challenges in the region, where militant groups continue to target both infrastructure and civilians. Such attacks, particularly on development projects, are seen as attempts to disrupt stability and spread fear among local populations.
Officials stressed the need for coordinated efforts between the state and local communities to counter terrorism and ensure lasting peace in the region.
