Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is among 26 world leaders in Beijing to attend China’s largest military parade on Wednesday. This grand event showcases China’s growing power and disciplined military prowess, drawing global attention to its strategic influence.

Strengthening Pakistan-China ties

PM Shehbaz is leveraging this visit to reinforce the robust friendship between Pakistan and China. Pakistani officials emphasise that the trip aims to bolster trade, energy, and technology linkages, while deepening cooperation on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) routes and industrial zones.

Pakistan is actively seeking increased Chinese investment in power transmission, agriculture, and digital services. During the visit, the Prime Minister is expected to hold sideline meetings with Chinese leaders and business partners to advance these goals. The overarching objective is to create jobs for Pakistani’s, boost exports, and enhance connectivity to strengthen Pakistan’s economy.

President Xi Jinping’s call for global peace

In his Victory Day speech, President Xi Jinping urged humanity to make a critical choice between war and peace.

He advocated for resolving disputes through dialogue and respect for national sovereignty, emphasising that cooperation in development, climate, and trade offers a safer path for all nations. Xi’s message underscores China’s commitment to fostering global stability through collaborative efforts.

China’s commitment to development over expansionism

President Xi Jinping reaffirmed that China will never pursue global expansionist policies.

Instead, he stressed that China prioritises cooperation and respect for sovereignty, aiming to reduce regional tensions and maintain stable trade relations. This stance positions China as a partner focused on mutual progress rather than dominance.

Scale and highlights of the parade

The parade, held in Tiananmen Square, is drawing over fifty thousand spectators to witness a seventy-minute display of military might. The event features air formations, marching troops, and advanced equipment, including hypersonic missiles, unmanned drones, and upgraded tanks.

President Xi Jinping will review the formations and deliver a keynote address. Notable global leaders in attendance include Russia’s Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un. To ensure security, Beijing has closed major roads and schools, following weeks of meticulous rehearsals and stringent checks across the city.

Trump alleges Xi Jinping of conspiring against the United States of America

President Trump said on truth social that “The central question posed is whether President Xi will acknowledge the huge support that the United States gave China in its fight for freedom against a hostile invader. Many Americans died on Chinese soil in that struggle. The hope is that they are honored and remembered for their bravery and sacrifice.”

The message also wishes President Xi and the people of China a lasting day of celebration.

The note closes on a sharper line. Warm regards are sent to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un while alleging a conspiracy against the United States. The tone shifts from goodwill to warning. It signals deep mistrust and rising tensions.

Regional implications and opportunities for Pakistan

China presents the parade as a symbol of national revival and stability, projecting a vision of order rooted in sovereignty and development.

For Pakistan, PM Shehbaz’s visit offers a vital opportunity to gain momentum for joint projects and training initiatives. It paves the way for expanded collaboration in disaster response, cybersecurity, and new technologies like AI.

Amid shifting global politics and trade tensions, the event underscores Pakistan’s efforts to balance international ties while prioritising economic growth and public welfare.

Upon his return, PM Shehbaz will assign follow-up tasks to ministries and the private sector. The success of this visit will be measured by increased investment flows, faster project delivery, and access to new markets for Pakistani goods.
