Web Desk: Security forces in Kohat Khyber Pakhtunkhwa dismantled a suspected terrorist cell during a raid on a farmhouse in Kohat, seizing explosives, weapons and communication equipment.
The joint operation, carried out by police and the Counter-Terrorism Department, prevented what officials described as a potentially large-scale attack.
Acting on intelligence, security personnel raided the property on the outskirts of Kohat, a district that has faced repeated militant violence in recent years. Authorities said the suspects had established the site as a staging ground for planned attacks.
Although no casualties were reported during the operation, officials said the scale and type of material recovered pointed to advanced preparation.
During the search, security forces recovered two improvised explosive devices, additional explosive material and IED components, prima cord and detonators. They also seized two hand grenades and a sniper rifle, along with 10 magazines and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
In addition, authorities found medical kits, communication equipment, several SIM cards, three laptops, three mobile phones and various documents believed to be linked to militant activity.
Officials said the seizure of military-grade equipment indicated the cell had the capability to carry out coordinated attacks. “A major disaster has been averted,” an official involved in the operation said.
Meanwhile, investigators are examining the recovered electronic devices and documents to identify suspects, trace networks and determine possible targets. Security has been tightened in the area as authorities continue follow-up operations, they added.
