Scientists develop low-calorie sugar best for diabetic patients

sugar is called tagatose

Web Desk: Scientists have developed a new type of natural sugar that tastes as sweet as regular sugar, but is not harmful to health. This sugar is called tagatose. It has very few calories and does not cause a sudden increase in blood sugar or insulin, so it could be especially useful for diabetics. Tagatose is slightly less sweet than regular sugar, but the taste is almost the same. The best thing is that it has only one-third of the calories, which means the risk of weight gain is also reduced.

This sugar is naturally found in very small amounts in some fruits and milk, which is why it was previously expensive and difficult to make. Now scientists have found a new way to make it easily with the help of bacteria. They developed bacteria called E. coli in such a way that they work like small factories. A special enzyme was added to these bacteria, which efficiently converts glucose into tagatose. The new method has a yield of 95%, which is much higher than before.

According to doctors, this sugar is also good for teeth and does not allow bacteria to grow in the mouth. Apart from this, it can also be used to make cakes or biscuits, as it does not spoil when heated. Which is often not possible in artificial sweeteners.

This sugar is partially digested, which can help in the growth of beneficial bacteria in the intestines. According to some research reports, it can also help in improving weight and cholesterol, however, more research is underway on this. Experts say that if this sugar reaches the general public, it can prove to be a great relief for diabetes, obesity and heart patients.
